What was announced
On 14 September 2026, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said his Cyber Crime Bureau had seized 12 websites that used AI to make and sell deepfake pornography of real people — actors, athletes, politicians, and others — without consent. Reporting by amNewYork and the DA’s office put the number of people depicted at more than 1,200, mostly women.
Visitors to those domains now see a New York County seizure notice, not the old sites. Officials said a survivor’s report made the warrants possible. At the time of the announcement, operators had not been arrested. Bragg said a conviction under the state intimate-image law they cited can mean up to one year in jail. Other such sites still exist.
Not the FBI
Some social posts called this an FBI takedown. The public record is the Manhattan DA, with a New York State Supreme Court seizure warrant. We are not repeating an FBI claim the source does not make.
What this does not mean
- It does not remove copies that already spread to other hosts, apps, or search results
- It is not a worldwide ban on deepfake NCII
- It does not replace in-app reports, hashing, or a case you open yourself
- AntiNCII is independent of the Manhattan DA and of the FBI
If this is you
Adults 18+
Synthetic or AI-generated intimate images of you are in scope here. The file stays on your device. Create a case. Also report on each platform. More on the term: What does NCII mean?
Anyone in New York
The DA asked people who were depicted without consent to contact the office. That is a local prosecutor, not AntiNCII. We cannot file that complaint for you.
